Is Edge a kind of "descendant" of IE?

I need to check the site for sanity in Edge.
I'm having some difficulty installing Edge and was wondering if Edge is a descendant of IE?
I mean, can I test my site on IE 11 and be sure it looks the same on Edge? (Not counting the little things in the form of discrepancies in fonts and other things)

Edge periodically pops up bugs that weren't in IE, so it's not enough to check for IE 11
