iPad: pros and cons
I understand that the question is somewhat from the field of holivars, but still I will ask.
I really want an iPad, although I never had a passion for Apple.
First of all, because of the software. My daughter and I love to play different casual games together, plus mom wants a reader. To be honest, the choice of games, including for a child of four years old, is simply impressive (I myself sit on Android - my wife on Symbian). There have never been iPhone-like solutions, Macbook and other things.
How meaningful NOW is the purchase of an iPad for reading games (well, maybe I would sometimes watch a movie on it). Or still choose a prefix + reader for mom? For the money you get the same Wii + reader?
In a word, confused. What is better, 3G model or no 3G support, if we look at the ipad as a game console? 16 or 32 GB? And in general, is it needed?
Sorry it's messy.

you know, I'll tell you, as a person who recently started using Apple devices (after android / linux / ...). Before that, I was also rather indifferent to this technique. I am sure that the iPad will not be able to 100% satisfy your needs, however, not only will you not regret the money spent, but you definitely will not want to part with this device.
I can't say the same about any other device, be it a tablet or a handheld game console like the PSP.
so if this purchase does not hit your pocket too hard, then do not spare money - you will find peace and peace of mind :)
As for whether it's appropriate to buy an iPad now, I can assure you that the iPad will be supported and updated much longer than any Android tablet this year and will still be a cool thing in a year and a half. for comparison, look at the life cycle of a cheap iPod touch 2nd gen (which has recently been updated to iOS 4.2) and, for example, the top-of-the-line android phone HTC Hero (which will never have Android 2.2, despite the fact that 2.3 is already in the yard). so it's not even about the cost.
I can't say that 3g is very necessary - it depends on how you plan to use it. but as for the memory - on Apple devices 32 gigabytes are filled so easily and naturally even on an iPhone / iPod ...
I have a slightly different question: take it now, or wait for the second version of the iPad, announced in February 2011 ...
I don’t know about the iPad, but the iPhone can already replace the set-top box. Reading books is for sure.
Plus watching movies, websites.
If you plan to use at home, then 3G is not needed, there is WiFi.
Well, gigabytes, the more the better.
Bought an iPad. Satisfied. The reader is gathering dust on the shelf. I use 3G all the time, on the road and on business trips I often write articles for the site on the iPad. The gadget is not as heavy as they say: I constantly read in the subway, I hold it with one hand, I got used to the mass in a day, maybe two. I charge every four or five days.
There is both an iPad and a Kindle in the family. The rendering of small fonts is annoying on the iPad, mostly on web pages. Clearly low screen resolution.
For reading books, a reader is better suited if autonomy is an important criterion.
I would take an iPad for children because of animated books . But I don’t know if there are similar ones in Russian.
The answer to your question is based on your needs. iPad is a device for "consumption" of multimedia content. It lasts incredibly long without recharging. Has a large screen. For photos and videos - probably the best solution. For games, it is quite possible, given its incredible lightness, but at the same time a rather large screen.
In this case, you can take it, quite.
I do not advise you to take the iPad now. There is even news on iPhones.ru that the second version will appear in about 100 days.
Ipad 2 will be much better: both the filling and the screen promise usb and a second camera. The price is supposed to be about the same. But the iPad of the first version by this time will no longer be released and sold.
So I do not envy those who have now bought an iPad. Wait a bit.
Well, Wii and iPad have quite different games. If I were you, I would choose which ones you / daughter / mother like best.
Received as a gift the youngest model. The whole family is satisfied: I read different things, we either play board games with the whole family or my daughter has fun alone.
When he fell into my hands, thought to sell, but now there are thoughts about buying a second.
If I were you, I would wait for the release of the iPad2 (at least in the US) and ... buy an iPad. I'm sure you'll save at least 30% off today's price.

should be released within 24 hours . I think NOW taking an iPad of sense 0 is worth at least waiting for the first reviews of this device.
And for reading, take a reader. She is much better. Kindle costs $189, while it is much lighter, lasts longer, is more pleasing to the eye when reading (large resolution, not glossy, does not glow by itself - a complete illusion of paper), and even 3G is included in the kit, anlim, free and worldwide.
Buying an iPad is my first introduction to apple technology. I was impressed by the small features of iOS and the programs, which are very convenient and pleasant to use.
iTunes has a lot of free programs that are enough, but if you want more, you can safely JailBreak and use the repository of hacked programs.
When it comes to games, my nephew doesn't leave my side and he really likes colorful solutions and simple interface in casual games.
Personally, I thought before buying that I would play on it, it turned out quite the opposite. I launch games only when someone asks to demonstrate them, and I myself am happy to finish the 5th book during lunch at work or on a trip, not to mention that at home. I don’t like to read from a computer, but I’m too lazy to go to bookstores and buy.
For my needs, I took a model with 3G 16GB and this is enough for me, because. games + software occupy 8-9 GB, the rest is movies, songs and photos. 3G is very convenient to use, because. Browsing is pleasant and sometimes the Internet is very necessary.
The choice was hard to take or not, but now I have no doubt left. I like this device and it is very convenient to use it in everyday life. I can't imagine my life without Icq, Skype, Safari, iBooks, etc., and this device is just designed for everyday life.
I decided to give myself an iPad for NG. I bought version 32 + 3G. Happy as an elephant. The whole family drags it from each other for grabs. The wife is reading, the child is playing. At night, when everyone is asleep and there is no competition, I use the gadget myself. Everything is great, everything suits. Until the moment of purchasing Apple products, I didn’t have it at all, although I had a superficial encounter with Macs several times.
Regarding the cost of the iPad after the appearance of the second generation. It is unlikely that there will be a radical price reduction for the gadget in the Russian Federation. Don't forget what country we live in. Not far to go for an example. When I decided to buy an iPad for myself, I began to smoke forums, Internet shops and sites of large networks, where they also sell it. Not bourgeois flea markets. So. For the bourgeoisie, the price for the New Year's sales is not much, but it has decreased. Apparently, stimulate the market. We have the opposite. For a week, the gadget "grew" by 1.5-3 tr. It has to do with demand. Personally, in Moscow, I had to call a dozen stores of a large electronics chain in order to find what I needed in one of the branch offices. Of course, 32 + 3G is the most in demand now. Model 16 + WiHi or 64 + 3G take at any time. One is "castrated", the second is too "expensive" and pretentious. With me (flying to the found store with all legs, to have time to buy before NG) took 2 more tablets. On this, the supply of 32 + 3G ended there. The next delivery is after January 15 and is more expensive by 3 tr (according to the consultant).
So with the advent of the iPad2, it is unlikely that the cost for the first generation will drop by 10+ tr, leveling off with the US price of 499 bucks. We live in the wrong society. It is easier for sellers to keep the price and wait than to take a turn. But I digress a little. ))
Personal opinion, such a "toy" as the iPad will be both a good gift and a useful purchase. Who doubts - take it. I think that if you hold it in your hands, if you drink it in the evening, you will not regret it.
