iPad 2 or Macbook Air?
Actually, I asked this question.
I am rarely at home, so most of the time the device will work autonomously.
They don't differ much in price: $999 for a Macbook Air and $830 for an iPad.
Why do I need a device? Probably the same as a home PC - the Internet, movies, IM, a text editor. Everything. I don't use a computer anymore. And, well, maybe once a month upload some engine to ftp :)
In principle, these tasks can be performed on both a macbook and an ipad. So I don’t know what to choose: a full-fledged laptop or a multi-touch miracle iPad =)
I would be glad for any advice. Thank you.

iPad and Air have a couple of differences that fundamentally change their usability.
iPad: touchscreen, no keyboard
Air: keyboard, touchpad.
As a result, the first is ideal for consumption - to read, watch, listen - and in the most comfortable version in an armchair, on a sofa, on the road. And it is not particularly convenient for creating - to enter text, edit the site, work with several sources of information.
The second one does better what is not convenient on the first one - it is more efficient, faster and more convenient to work with the keyboard and touchpad. Plus - the ability to work with full, not mobile versions of the software (the same browsers, not to mention editors). If you wish, you can run Windows (there is still 5-10% of the software that is missing on the Mac).
Choose according to your needs.
Wait for the updated MacBook Air line, it seems to be on the way. I think Air is more practical.
I asked myself this question. Where did you find Air for $999? Is there much more in the restaurant or from America?
If you need only for the Internet, movies, IM and simple text editing (without complex design), then the iPad will still be better. It is more compact and simpler. The laptop cannot be turned 90 degrees and watch a movie on it, and then turn it back and read a book.
My channel 9 slows down on iPad2 and doesn't slow down on macbook pro (I think it won't be worse on air). This is an example, it is likely that there are many more such examples.
Those. Buying an iPad only, you may encounter limitations in everyday work that are not found in a full-fledged laptop.
For content consumption and communication - definitely an iPad, for writing code or large texts - it is already inconvenient.
In any case, I highly recommend a bluetooth keyboard for the iPad.
In general, from my experience, after buying an iPad, I began to leave my laptop at work, at home I have enough iPad + home torrent downloader with blackjack and Linux and a web interface.
