Installing Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC Desire HD?

After the official HTC announcement about the refusal to release Android 4.x for my device, I began to think about installing third-party firmware. After working on the topic a little, I realized that it was just darkness! A huge number of assemblies of varying degrees of curvature. Moreover, the installation procedure for each assembly can be fundamentally different. As a result, several questions have arisen.
1. Are there currently up-to-date, stable and 100% workable assemblies with Sense that do not need to be finalized with a file (reinstall the dialer, etc.)?
2. How much will the amount of internal memory decrease? Now with the official firmware, I don’t care about the internal volume at all, a little more than half is occupied.
3. Is it possible to restore the state of the device before installation?
4. Are there any normal instructions for people who have not performed this procedure 1000 and once, and are not going to do it all their lives? I find only some scraps of each of the stages (getting the root, etc.).
5. Is it possible to disable root after completing the procedure, as it was on the official firmware?
6. How is the battery on the ICS?
7. What is the probability of making a brick out of the device? Are there ways to restore functionality in case of failure?
I would also be grateful for general recommendations, the choice of tools; assembly differences; general installation scheme; assembly recommendations; pitfalls and maybe some non-obvious things.

1. Unfortunately, I did not try rums with SENSE, because for the most part because of SENSE and decided to reflash. Sens is heavy, slow, takes up a lot of space on the screen (there are 2-3 caps in the application list ... why ???) and memory space. In general, I would not recommend such firmware. UI ICS is much nicer. Therefore, I recommend CyanogenMod9, I had no problems with it, it works noticeably faster than Sens, stable.
2. As far as I remember - no way. The place for the system and for applications are different partitions. Even if this is not the case for DHD (I don’t remember anymore), in any case, CM9 and all AOKP roms weigh less than the original ones. For example, for Galaxy Note, the original one weighs about 800MB, and CM10 240MB.
3. No problem, but why?!
4. I think, in general, this is a necessary evil, because in the process of searching, you will learn a lot of useful things so as not to turn your phone into a brick. I smoke for the most part. manuals.
1st step S-Off;
2nd install ClockWorkMod Reckovery
3rd Root
4th CM9 rom + Google APPs
Options:
1) 1-3 step here: androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/439627-guide-s-off-root-htc-desire-revolutionary- windows-published-4th-november-2011-a.html
2) 1-4: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528925
I did the first option, the 4th step was the second.
5. You can. It is enough to remove the application responsible for distributing the root to other applications.
6. Depends on the firmware. If there are no glitches, then everything is fine, certainly not less than on the original. In general, try special programs like (Juice defender).
7. The probability varies from phone to phone (different models). And in most cases, the older the phone, the less chance of a brick. Brick - (mostly) the result of incorrect flashing, that is, 95% depends only on you. It is for this reason that climbing and looking for instructions is generally beneficial. Yes, and there are almost no irretrievable bricks ... the only question is how painful and expensive it will be for you to buy special connectors like (jtag).
P.S.
1. If somewhere in the instructions there were options for linux or Windows, I followed the path of linux.
2. After steps 1-3, you can reflash as much as you like, just pay attention to the fact that different types of firmware (based on sensor or aokp) require different kernels.

1. NO
2. On different assemblies in different ways, but no more than the original 3. Yes 4.

forum everything is described in detail.
5. Why?
6. On different assemblies in different ways
7. Small. There is.

I had an HTC Inspire 4G, it's like a Desire HD but for AT&T. Used to sim unlock (you don't need it) and get root Advanced Ace Hack Kit, author quarreled with xda, but links can still be obtained from google cache
