install hdfs?

Hello! I downloaded the hadoop archive via curl, unzipped it, configured xml files, etc., all according to tutorials on the Internet. When it was time to format the namenode, I ran into this problem: it
hdfs namenode -format
swears at the lack of the hdfs. If I didn't state the problem clearly, I'll ask again: how to "activate" this command manually, since I also downloaded the archive manually, and not through the package manager. Thanks

When you write variables to .bash_profile (or .bashrc), you must remember to apply the changes, i.e.:
. ./.bash_profile
