In which country can I be sued?

The situation is this:
I have a VPS, and the physical location of the server is valid in America. I start illegally distributing photographs of dear Nikita Sergeevich from there: 4d11c1f5.jpg
1) Do I understand correctly that you can sue me only in America?
2) Do I understand correctly that while I do not have accounts in foreign banks and I do not leave Russia, I can ignore the results of the aforementioned court? Those. In Russia, I can not file a similar complaint?

1) Wrong - you can be prosecuted under the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation even if you committed a crime outside Russia and never appeared there at all, provided that you were not convicted of this crime in another state. In addition, in your :) case, the crime scene may well be defined as the place where you committed illegal actions (uploaded a photo), and not where their (actions) results “backfired” (from where it was possible to download).
2) If, nevertheless, you are convicted by an American court according to their criminal code, then Russia does not extradite its citizens to foreign states. But here it is quite possible to bring civil liability (compensation for lost income, apparently and possibly compensation for moral harm) at the place of residence of the defendant (in your case, according to Russian laws). I find it difficult to say whether American law enforcement agencies can somehow collect a fine from you (not to be confused with compensation to victims) if you are outside the United States.

If you complain about abuse, you will be kicked out of the VPS faster than they will be prosecuted.

You need:

  • Get a left credit card or pay anonymously with electronic money for domain and hosting
  • It is better to register a domain and hosting in different offices, outside the Russian Federation, it is better in different countries, for example, the USA and France
  • Buy a VPN to surf anonymously to your new hosting
  • Upload photos and manage hosting only via https
  • Do not leave personal information anywhere
  • Always have a backup with hosting, synchronized with the main one, in order to transfer everything in a couple of hours

The cost of owning all this infrastructure per year: $500-$1000 is quite acceptable, should pay off)

If the scheme worked the way you described, then it would be impossible to prosecute anyone for cyber crimes at all. However, the physical location of servers outside the Russian Federation has never been an obstacle to conviction under 282 of the Criminal Code, in your case (under another article) it will not become an obstacle either.

Well, why only in America.
If you are deanonymized, they can send an official request to America asking for logs / other data. Copyright infringement in America is "loved". It may take many days, but I think it's real.
In Russia, the court, unfortunately, depends on how much you "got" them.
They can start a business, they can score.
