Image recognition technology in the IKEA catalog

In the latest IKEA catalog, on some pages there is an inscription informing about the presence of additional interactive content.
When using the IKEA Catalog app for iPhone or Android, when you hover your phone over a page, it is recognized and all sorts of different things appear.

According to information found on the net, this is a METAIO product and a specific Creator application and augmented reality browser from the same vendor.

Recognition of a printed page is fast enough, and there are no pronounced marks on the catalog page itself, such as QR codes or something similar.

Q: Is anyone familiar with the METAIO Creator product? And are there any assumptions about the recognition algorithm?

The recognition algorithm is as follows: any image is taken, control points are searched for on it (for example, using the FAST method and described using SURF ). The mutual arrangement of control points, as a rule, is different in different images. According to the map of these points, you can register the required URL in the database.

I am not familiar with this package. But you can look towards Qualcomm's Vuforia SDK . Or the Russian equivalent - ARMEE .
