How can I find out the creation date of an image?

There is a gallery, on the hosting all the pictures are in one folder in a bunch, their names are random, PNG. Links to them are short, but for convenience, I started to fence the viewer of all pictures, with the distribution by month and date. filemtime() doesn't work properly. How to find out the date of uploading an image to a hosting (without a database)?

have you tried filetime ? Returns the last modification time of a file.
