If you plug in the microphone wire, then one ear stops working on the headphones

I recently bought a Speedlink Medusa NX headset (http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=183&pid=22628&paus=1). She had a strange feature for me. If only headphones are connected, both ears work. If you plug in another wire from the microphone, then the left ear stops working, only the right one remains.

Can you please tell me if this is a bug or a feature?

Feature! :) This "feature" is called: "Change under warranty." Apparently the microphone is short.
