I make up websites, do I have to ask the client for permission to put my work in my portfolio?

Good day. I am engaged in layout of sites according to ready-made layouts. I work with foreign clients. Do I have to ask the client for permission if I want to put my work in a portfolio to showcase my skills in the front end/back end? At the mention of what I did, something like "responsive layout according to the finished layout, laravel backend" etc.

In theory, it is impossible, since all rights belong to the customer (according to the freelance policy). You can write your own contract.
Most freelancers post without permission, but no one really complains.

Gentlemen, since few people are in the subject of copyright ... I will explain this:
If the customer is enlightened, then he will give you his contract, which will indicate that the result of your work belongs to the customer from and to. And if you post something somewhere without his knowledge, then it will not seem enough to you. In the meantime, you have not concluded such an agreement with you, you can spread it anywhere and anything.

If the customer does not insist on an NDA, then you can freely upload it. If he insists, then demand more payment.
