I know angularjs, I would like to upgrade myself in ionic & node.js, where to start?

Actually: there is knowledge (based on a real project) of angularjs, but the project is now moving to the support stage, and spending a lot of time moving buttons, changing colors, adjusting work with api is certainly good, but I would like to learn something else from an adjacent "themes".
The eyes fell on the popular ones today: backend (node.js) & mobile (ionic). I'm not trying to study all the nuances of these "platforms", but knowing the basic concepts, being able to quickly "influence" the project will not be superfluous.
There is one thing, but, I'm a very lazy person. And I don't think it's necessary to code "hello world". Knowledge is given well when there is both a specific goal and motivation.
Can someone throw up some ideas offhand, what can I do to learn the basic nuances on the back and smarts? To make the development interesting first of all, well, in the future it could be used as a portfolio.
Let's say: a calendar app with gps marks with a login through social networks and so on. Well, this is the most boring and crazy thing that came to mind)
Can someone throw in a couple of ideas?
Thanks...

The best motivation for learning something new is to find a customer and subscribe to do something on what you want to learn)))

Find an interesting application in the app store and make it on ionic + node.

Ionic is dying, forget it.
You will run into a lot of problems - multi-touch emulation in webview, constant problems with position: fixed, a lot of crutches and poop in the implementation of cordova and phonegap. Our coder was just shocked by the development on the Ionic framework, he even had to send pull requests to cordova to fix bugs in the engine.
Use react-native. And be happy :-)
