I bought a license for Resharper for a year. Will I be able to renew my license after 3 years?

Or will I have to change my account and buy from scratch? I heard somewhere that if you do not renew your license, then you have to pay for all the past years that you did not pay. Technical support answered me that: for example, I bought a license, and the current version is 2017.3 from some product. A year later, the product version 2018.1 was released, if I did not renew the license, then my version always remains 2017.3. I can not use their products for several years, and then just pay for the license and all of the above is repeated.
