How to write in katakana (Japanese alphabet) on the virtual keyboard?

I'm trying to learn the basics of Japanese, I added a Japanese layout. I use a virtual keyboard, the usual one is inconvenient for me to use. The problem is that when I type, let's say the syllable wa, when I press the spacebar, it should turn into a katakana character わ, when using a live keyboard it happens, but when using a virtual keyboard it doesn't, it remains wa.
Tell me how to make the keyboard work correctly, or maybe download some kind of custom keyboard, and not the standard Windows one? So far I have found only online keyboards, but I don’t want to open another tab every time, type text there, copy and paste it to the right place. I want to get it right.
