How to write code on a laptop without Home, End, PageUp, PageDown keys?
Hello!
I want to buy a macbook air 13.4 "for everyday work, namely for developing websites.
Now I use msi x350 with such a keyboard.
The side keys Home, End, PageUp, PageDown greatly simplify the work.
Actually, the question is: how to work on a laptop without these keys? Are there any suitable hotkey schemes?
I've been trying to switch to the vim approach for a year now - but still lacking diligence. I
use PhpStorm as my main editor - it is also available for mac.
This question applies not only to macs, but and to the vast majority of ultrabooks with such keyboards.

The following combinations work for me under Mac OS Lion:
Fn + right = End
Fn + left = Home
Fn + up = Page Up
Fn + down = Page Down
Fn + backspace = Del
Only the combination for Insert is missing :-(
Already used, even on the windows keyboard, I press the arrows with the control :-)
Does website development involve a large external monitor? If yes, then an external keyboard without all these non-notebook layout miracles will be very useful IMHO :)
If you use OS X - there these keys are replaced by combinations of arrows and ctrl / cmd (depending on the version of the OS)
I think the best option is still stuffing your hands in vim. You can work there without these additional keys (in ancient times it was so). True, of course, you need to gain exp so that keystrokes are intuitive.
Cmd+Up - Scroll To Top
Cmd+Down - Scroll To Bottom
Cmd+Left - Home
Cmd+Right - End
Alt+Left - Move Left by One Word
Alt+Right - Move Right by One Word
All the same, but with Shift , highlights text. So it’s normal to work, you get used to it in a week and it’s 100500 more convenient than reaching for Home, End, PgUp, PgDown every time.
Ctrl+A = Home # It's not often that you have to select all the code
Ctrl+D = End
Ctrl+Up = PageUp
Ctrl+Down = PageDown
Home and End keys - Command+Arrow keys.
Page Up - Shift+Space.
Page Down - Space.
If you use such an under-keyboard, problems with your hands are guaranteed. Buy some M$ NEK-4000 already!
And there is no Delete (there is only BackSpace with the inscription Delete). It is solved the same way: Fn + Del. The first thing to do after buying a poppy is to read and, if possible, remember hotkeys (and remove the spotlight hotkey in the system settings, otherwise autocomplete will not work). Hotkeys are quite unexpected (cmd+opt+F12, cmd+ctrl+opt+8). In general, it's a matter of habit, adaptation to the Mac keyboard takes several days. After that, it already seems absolutely comfortable and disappears from attention during work.
I have been using 13" macbook air for 1.5 years, including for development in phpStorm, everything is fine.
But Word and Excel are inconvenient to use. The display scale is such that everything is small, but for some reason there is no parameter for setting the default scale You have to do this in every file.
