How to work with files in ubuntu?

I'm trying to switch from Windows to Linux, I installed ubuntu. So far it's unusual. More precisely, it is not unusual, but it is not clear how it is right. For example, to edit a file (nginx config file, for example), you need to run the editor as root, but there is no such possibility through the GUI and you need to write sudo gedit /etc/nginx/nginx.conf.
And in general, it turns out that it is more convenient to work through the terminal through the GUI. Is that how it should be? Or am I doing something wrong? Maybe a graphical interface is needed only for watching a movie / checking mail, but for a developer it is more convenient to use the terminal everywhere? How do you use ubuntu?

Goodnight.
Yes, unlike windows on ubuntu, the terminal comes first, the main tool.
To edit a file, it is not necessary to run gedit at all, you can use the same terminal
What kind of animal is this "nano" read here
In general, get used to the terminal, learn to work in it and all the girls / guys (underline as necessary) are yours)))) )

Through the console, you can not only edit, create, copy, move files within the system, but you can also work wonders on a remote server through the terminal.

I almost forgot.
Remember that when working through the terminal you need to think with your head and before executing any command, read the documentation.
