How to wean Windu when selecting, to select the text as she needs, and not as I do?

How to wean Windu when selecting, to select the text as she needs, and not as I do? The entire word is always selected, and it is generally impossible to select a tag at the "><" junction. This is terribly infuriating in the donkey and the Word.
I don’t know a little who is responsible for this action, OS or software, but everything works as it should in Mozilla.

I have a feeling that this is, after all, software.
In a Word, for example, when you highlight words in general, it stands out, but if, after highlighting a word, you go back a little, the selection begins in letters. Never noticed such behavior, except for the office.

In my opinion, the thing is systemic, but can be turned off by the application at will. This "magnet" was introduced to make it easier to highlight words in their entirety and with small punctuation marks. As petrovi4 said, you need to move the cursor back after highlighting the word - the magnet is turned off. Very handy, but not intuitive.

Good question, but no answer. I use "workaround": you select what is hooked on the snap, and then you press Shift + arrows.

The application itself is responsible for highlighting the text, it remains only to wait for a fix from the developers :(

Hold down ALT in Word, it also works in IE, but the menu will interfere.
And yes, it's software, not OS.
