How to update the "Add to panel" list in Gnome Panel

The most normal solution that I found: Maybe there are better solutions?
killall gnome-panel

Create a "Start Button" on your desktop. Name it, in the "command" field, enter "killall gnome-panel". Drag the icon to the gnome-panel, click when necessary and rejoice. Or do you personally dislike the "killall" command itself?
