How to update PHP, MySQL, etc. on IIS installed via the Microsoft Web Platform without breaking anything?

Decided to study IIS administration at my leisure. I myself am a project manager. Installed PHP, MySQL via Web Platform ( www.microsoft.com/web/ ). Versions are not the newest. How will it be correct to update these and similar components without breaking iis? Will their update be different from the standard one?
