How to understand Esxi vsphere metrics?

Using the web vsphere-client, I monitor host metrics:

• idle
  
• wait
  
• swap wait
  
• co-stop
  
• ready
  
• used
  

I understand how to use them to get 100% of the CPU time and what it is doing when the metrics are taken from the VM. But it doesn’t fit in any way how these metrics work and are calculated if they are removed from the host. Let's say on some hosts idle > wait , although according to the documentation wait includes idle . If any explanation for this?
