How to translate RFC 1149?

RFC 1149 https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1149 has the phrase
"The IP datagram is printed, on a small scroll of paper, in hexadecimal, with each octet separated by whitestuff and blackstuff"

What is whitestuff and blackstuff?

Translators and Google do not know this

"stuff" is a universal substitute word (like "garbage" in Russian but not so colloquially). Can be translated as "separated by something white and something black".
