How to transfer a layer to another document to get an image?

I am learning to make up websites and I need layers as images. as I understood from one video, you need to select the layer> create a duplicate layer> new (document). But it doesn't always work out. Only a white background appears in the new document. I'm using an older version of Photoshop. Tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to do it.

You can create a layer selection by pressing the CTRL key on it in the layers menu, then press CTRL + C, and then create a new document through File - New, where you will need to press CTRL + V. (Photoshop will determine the desired size of the created document, depending on the size of the copied layer.) You can also create a new document in advance and drag the desired layer to the tab with it.

Photoshop has a great solution for downloading images. It will especially help layout designers.
1. First, the layer must be renamed with the extension .png or .jpeg
2. Next, go File --> Generate --> Set of images.
3. After that, a folder with all the images that you renamed according to the rule from step 1 will appear in the layout folder.
