How to transfer a domain controller correctly?

Hello. Need help system administrators lvl 80... There were two domain controllers, the main ordered to live long. How to transfer and configure the new main controller correctly, or is it better to make the new one additional? While only installed OS (2008 r2 as well as on the second). I assigned rid master and pdc to the additional controller using Ntdsutil. If possible, please write down the stages of all actions. As I understand it, the new controller must be entered into the existing domain and then all operations must be performed. Also, replication was configured earlier ...

The new one is easier to make additional.
First, of course, the backup (old worker) needs to be made the main one.
This is done by transferring roles.

Captured the roles by the backup controller:
Move-ADDirectoryServerOperationMasterRole -Identity $env:COMPUTERNAME -OperationMasterRole SchemaMaster,RIDMaster,InfrastructureMaster,DomainNamingMaster,PDCEmulator
-Force until replication takes place. The status can be monitored through repadmin and dcdiag. Also look for errors in system events.
Did you initially raise your domain to <=2008? What mode is it currently in?
