How to test mobile layout?

Faced on the robot with testing the layout for mobile devices. All possible services (free) do not give the result you expect. It was not possible to find a normal service, albeit a paid one. The only option left is to check on real pieces of iron (I myself adhere to this option). Share your experience on how you test the layout.
I see only these options:
- on real hardware (if so, what are the "main" gadgets, screen sizes and screen resolutions they have?);
- on a free service;
- on a paid service.

Update Chrome to the latest version.
Open the page, press f12 or Ctrl+Shift+i (Developer Tools).
Click the Show console icon in the right corner. (Not to be confused with just Console)
Go to the Emulation tab.
Many parameters are emulated like Touch, Swipe, Media queries... everything you need.

1) I look in Chrome via Responsive Viewer
2) I look at HTC One, Iphone 4, Ipad 3 (whatever is at hand)
