How to switch from Ubuntu to Debian?

Hello. Interested in the possibility of moving from Ubuntu 14.04.5 to Debian 8.7.1. I have been using Ubuntu for about a year and, in principle, I am satisfied, but I want something similar, but easier. I rolled into the Debian virtual machine and it seems to be what I need)) Is there a way to roll over Ubuntu so that the minimum software has to be rearranged? Or is it easier to cleanly demolish and reinstall everything?

1. Do not believe in fairy tales that one distribution is easier than another. Both install nicely with mini.iso/netinst.iso and deliver what you need.
2. There is always an opportunity to roll, you can roll 50 grams, and then get down to business. Back up your home, back up (if any) all sorts of databases and stuff, and then rearrange the system.

If you do not have a combat server, but a desktop, why do you need debian on it? How will it be fundamentally different from ubunta except for the name and older versions of packages?
