How to study HDD?

It so happened that recently my duties included all possible operations with removable media (internal hard drives, external, flash cards), namely data recovery, 100% understanding of the principles and methods of work, repair. Tell me where to start in order to join such a narrow specialization? Maybe some books or manuals. Nothing intelligible came up.

And to the point: start looking for recovery software (mhdd, recuva and tydy) and try to use them. Try to disassemble old disks, there is nothing that distinguishes them from new models.
