Is SSD speed really important in video game development?
Now with a friend we are choosing a new disk in m.2 format for 500GB for the system + UE4 + game projects. I heard a lot about the Samsung EVO 860, so I immediately began to recommend it. Any ssd will do. The difference will be between the models, of course, but not significant. The difference isn't worth the extra money.
And you don’t need to look at the maximum numbers, look at the recording of random small data in a multi-stream.
Linear speed is important when editing video (provided that the processor, gpu and memory have time to cope with the incoming amount of data), while compiling a bunch of small files are written and saved. Even if there is a 20% difference between the slowest ssd and the fastest nvme (usually the difference will be much smaller). Then 12 minutes will be archived on one, and 10 minutes on the second. And the price difference is vast.
It may very well be that these SSDs are removed from the same conveyor. Only Samsung is quality and reliability, so the parameters are slightly underestimated, A-Data is all that remains after Samsung.
There is an interesting history and personal life. I have Samsung 2200 lithium batteries, I bought a flashlight, and there are two A-Data 4400, but very similar. Measured capacity. In real life, Samsung has about 2500, and A-Data did not even reach 2000.
