How to start self-education in the field of game industry programming?
Good day, dear inhabitants of the Toaster. I am 17 years old and I study in England. For the past two years, I have been very tormented by the question: "Who do I want to become?". After much thought and trying to imagine myself in the role of a representative of numerous professions, I came to the conclusion that I feel passion when I imagine myself in the development of computer games. I have never been interested in studying the IT world, as a result of which I can’t even imagine how much it costs to start self-education in this area (since I will enter higher education only after 2 years). I am sure that the beginning of my study of this area and its intricacies two years before entering the university can help me a lot in the future, so I decided to turn to you with this question.

Well, if you're in England, then go to https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/ and ask there in English. On specialized forums / sections, information is always more relevant.
The most important thing is to stop playing games in time, or rather, learn to regulate and limit the amount of time spent playing games.
For the past two years, I have been very tormented by the question: "Who do I want to become?".
Create a simple casual game (like bomberman).
1. Add the main scene (main menu).
2. Level selection scene, high score display scene, preloader when transitioning between scenes.
3. Add a game scene and an internal game menu inside this scene.
4. Make it online so you can play against each other.
5. Release a beautiful and finished product.
You will understand: how the game loop is created, how game scenes are controlled and managed, how events are processed, how to pause the game, what network delay means and how it is leveled.
The game can be made in any programming language.

In your topic, there are two important phrases "What to become?" and "Senior software engineer" .
These are important and timely questions at your age. As I understand it, you are not a programming fan who sits all the time after class at the computer to figure out how this or that technology works and sticks it into a notebook or ISR all weekend in order to write lines of code.
Therefore, before you make the right decision, I would advise (make an analysis of professions):
1) make sure to do career guidance with a specialist or self-career guidance,
2) on the basis of it, learn as much as possible about the field of activity that you identified with a specialist and about a number of professions, on which you stopped
3) obtain and analyze all the information on a particular profession.
4) make a conclusion - whether the profession suits you.
Ideally, before starting training at the university, try her "profession". Take a self-study course with practice (video hosting sites are full of everything now) to make sure that this is what you want to do...
Regarding your choice.... In case of a successful interview, you are threatened by Junior and you need to understand that it will take years to reach Senior ( 2-7 years) hard work as a programmer. Well done for asking yourself what to become, and now go back to the beginning (item 1) to understand what exactly suits you and whether the profession of a programmer suits you at all. There is one wisdom:"If you are ready to program for fun and for free, sitting out for days on end ... and you can sit for days sitting at a PC, then this is your hobby, and therefore yours is an ideal profession" .
