How to start learning Java 8?
I have programming experience in C/C++. At the moment, the question was, what book to read and immediately understand the essence of the language and its syntax. I opted for Horstmann on the 1st volume of "Fundamentals" . Is it worth your time or not, and what else is worth reading after it? I also heard not bad reviews about "Java 8. Complete Guide" Schildt - how is it?
Horstmann on the net is the 9th edition of the book, on the shelves in the store - 10 - what is their difference?

Both Horstmann and Schildt are good. As for java 8, you shouldn't bother too much. The changes there are more of an evolutionary nature, then somehow you will finish your studies already.
From google.
And even better with the ability to look for answers, rather than asking questions.
1) Horstman volume 1 - just run through your eyes, for me personally it is so-so. Stupid guide, does not explain anything. In the case of the shield, it’s a little better, but in principle the same thing
2) I advise you to take a book to prepare for the OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I exam, an author like Boyarsky, there is on torrents :) Everything is explained quite well, better than in Horstman, don’t consider it like a book for an exam) Everything is really well written there and gives a definite understanding of how everything is arranged in Java
3) There is a video course on preparing for an exam from a very cool dude, also called. The speaker is very good, just follow the sections of the book and his video lectures
4) When you figure it out, read Effective Java - 2 edition, although old, is still considered the best literature on Java
Everything that he named, except for Horstman, requires not very much, but knowledge of English. In general, good luck :) The main thing is not to spend too much time on the horstman and shield, for me it's more of a guide than some kind of manual. They do not give understanding of the language
