How to start knowledge of computer technology?

I need to learn from the root, from where the working cycles began in the processor, permanent and operational memory. I need to understand why it works. How the process occurs physically, on what principle it occurs. What each individual part does (the processor is acceptable) and how the rest of the parts are related to it (the RAM is acceptable). What to understand, how you can make a mechanical computer, at this level. Where to begin?
