How to solve the problem with adding a footprint in Altium Designer?

Started learning Altium Designer, and when trying to bind my first footprint to an element, there was a problem! The footprint is not displayed in the lower left corner and this is observed only for my self-made element, because everything works fine for elements from the standard libraries.
The sequence of my actions:
1. I draw a circuit element.
2. I draw a footprint and save it.
3. I return to the element and in the lower left corner I press the "Add footprint" button, then I open the component I need and the footprint appears in a special preview area, then I press ok and I have an empty area in the lower right corner.
