How to shoot at a shutter speed of 30s (pressing a button)?

Setting the shutter speed to 30s, pressing the shutter button as usual - focusing is in progress and the LCD screen darkens, but nothing else happens. Clamping the situation is the same, but the screen turns on when I release the button. How to take pictures - hold the button all the way or somehow differently?
