We purchased 2 domains: site.ru and site.rf. Which one to make the main one, and which one to set up a redirect from.
Which one will be better indexed in search engines? Does this make any sense?

There is not much difference, but it is usually recommended that the main ones do RU after all.
For their correct gluing it is necessary:
​​1) Make them "mirrors" (that is, give the same content for both sites).
2) Specify the directive Host: site.ru (with your ru-domain) in robots.txt.
3) Optional: you can add both to I-Webmaster and apply to move the rf-domain to the ru-domain.
