How to set up a VPS on Windows Server 2012?
Hello.
Never had to administer servers before. But now there is such a need.
I rented a VPS server with Windows Server 2012. How to set up a remote desktop from scratch? What is needed for this?
Tried to configure the appropriate roles. On the server, everything seems to be set up, but I can not connect to it from a local computer.
I also noticed one thing: the server does not respond to the external IP address. Is it supposed to be like this or is it some kind of technical problem?
Should the Internet be available on the server itself?

I will describe from the best scenario to the worst.
1. We go to the site 2ip.ru, we see what address was displayed there - we connect to it.
If not
2. Open the server management console ( b2b.cbsimg.net/blogs/a09182012main.jpg) open access, point 4 from the picture.
If it doesn’t open
3. Do ipconfig, look at what IP it is, do ping 8.8.8.8, make sure that traffic is coming (we don’t need dns), if everything goes, does the address that was received in step 1 converge with what ipconfig issued?
If it doesn't match, is the VPS provider using NAT? If it converges, we write in the TP, most likely a provider's fire or crooked hands. If there is no traffic or something is not right at all, we check whether the network details are specified correctly, if everything is correct, we write to the TP, something is clearly wrong.
Well, it would not hurt to do something from your PC tracert to the desired node, it is quite possible to do something with the routes.
Need more data - what kind of server, what kind of vps with a local computer, how did you set it up if there is no remote access?
In general, you don't need to configure anything - server administrators can connect to it without the remote desktop role.
Ping can be closed.
What does "Internet connection must be available" mean? If the Internet is not configured / not connected, then it will not be.
