How to set up a proxy server?

Good afternoon. I have a static white IP. I want to set up my own proxy server, and even cheaply. Help me to understand.
For sale on aliexpress is such a device ORANGE PI - a mini PC capable of pulling ubuntu and probably can work as a proxy server.
I now have Zyxel Keenetic on the Internet cable.
I think in order for the proxy to work via IP, the server, and not the router, should immediately ping? How to connect it to the network first, while making the router work and distribute Wi-Fi to other devices in the normal mode?

why ?? do not be wiser than necessary and there will be no problems in the future.
the kineticist will redirect packets to your orange and back without any delay. see DMZ, port forwarding and all that. put the orange behind the kinetic, forward the port for the proxy to it.
the speed of the proxy and orange will be such that you won't even feel the delays from the kinetics, if you strain yourself on purpose :)
ping is one of the tyrnet subsystems - it didn't fit like a wedge.
Using Wi-Fi for a fixed network is not the best solution, IMHO of course.

Do not rush to assemble a separate piece of hardware for a proxy, first check if there is dd-wrt / openwrt firmware for your router (for some Keenetic models they definitely were). If there is, then flash and raise the proxy directly on the router.
If you want a separate piece of iron, then simply forward the port to the proxy behind the router.
Well, you can always throw out the nafig router and set up routing and any services on your hardware from scratch (raspeberry / orange / etc.), though then you should think about buying a more powerful wifi antenna.
