How to send an email using postfix?

I installed postfix, chose Internal Site during installation and did not change anything by default.
I do

sendmail EMAILADDRESS
FROM: FROMADDRESS
SUBJECT: hello world
this is a test email
.

Nothing happens, no answer or hello in the console.
