It would seem a simple thing, I want to see what task is being worked on right now, the employee is currently working. That is, tasks keep track of time and at the start of execution, the button "Start recording my time" is pressed, you need to view exactly all the tasks in which this button is currently pressed and the employee is working on this particular task. Now, when assigning a task, the tasks have a status in work, being performed, even though the timer is paused and, in fact, work is not being done on the task.

Something is wrong with you in Bitrix24 - perhaps someone has already customized this moment, because tasks that are assigned to an employee, but for which time is not tracked right now, have the status Waiting for completion, and the status In progress - just stands for tasks , which are running right now - see screenshot.
