How to reuse old laptop keyboards?

Subject. Are there any out-of-the-box or pre-built solutions for this? Are there any collections of keyboard pinouts or something like that, maybe some ready-made solutions, nevertheless, that do not require parsing the keyboard itself to find out which key controls what? Or did no one do it? I'd turn a couple of ThinkPad keyboards into USB keyboards, which is why I'm asking.
