How to reset sudo password on macbook?

Hello, I'm trying to set a new password on a macbook - follow the instructions:

To boot into single user mode, press “Command-S” while loading Mac OS (immediately after turning it on). If everything is done correctly and on time, then the root shell will load in front of us #

Next, “remount” the root partition in Write mode:
# /sbin/mount -uw /
And, finally, change the password for root or any other account using a simple command:
# passwd root

However, after the system prompts me to enter new password and then confirm it I get:

# passwd: unable to change the password for record root. eDSRecordNotFound

What's the matter? Thanks
