How to replace a hard drive on an 8086-compatible PC?
Ancient computer, CPU - NEC V40 (clone 80186). Restoring just out of curiosity.
Disk interface - IDE. Modern hard drives are rejected with a "Non-DMA Fixed Disk" error, there are no others.
Does it make sense to take the first available CompactFlash and connect it through an adapter? I'm afraid that the card may not identify itself as a hard drive, and the hardware is too old to work with such.
Or, maybe, somewhere there are projects of a hard disk emulator based on programmable microcontrollers?
