I'm just starting to learn how to develop applications in VIsual Studio, and a probably stupid question arose - why, when adding elements, the border does not coincide with the actual selection borders? What are these indents?

Look at the generated XAML markup. In general, it is better not to use visual tools (unless you are a designer), but to write the markup manually, so you will get much more compact and flexible code.
