How to remove green indents and spaces in nano?

Instead of the usual space, such greenery appeared.

As far as I remember, it was not there before.

This is syntax highlighting, that's how the authors wanted :)
In the /usr/share/nano/ directory, look for the *.nanorc file of the syntax you are interested in and edit it for yourself.
P.S. if the directory is a GIT repo, then it is also an indicator of changed lines.
