The solution to my problem:
it turned out not to be in the question asked.
I thought php is not working because it is not running, if that is possible at all)
It was all about the php.ini settings
. I used the following php tags in my code - <? ?>
And in the settings, the ability to use such tags was disabled.
Enabled like this:
short_open_tag = On
