How to register a range of names in hosts?

I have a local LAMP server at home and wanted to create my own ".dev" domain zone by editing hosts in the router, how can I make all domains with ".dev" forwarded to the server?

If you have LAMP, then it will not be difficult for you to run bind (or some other name server) on it, call it a master for the dev zone, register this zone there and assign it as a dns server for your PC. Nothing will change for the rest of the world, and dns will honestly distribute the dev zone to you.
