How to set up remote work with a copy of the desktop in Linux?
Given: server on Ubuntu 12.04.
It is necessary to work remotely with his GUI programs so that it is not displayed on his real desktop.
X forwarding via SSH is not suitable - it is slow and when SSH falls off, the program launched via SSH is killed. It is necessary that the programs continue to work when they are started remotely.
I used tightvnc - it was ideal, it created a copy of the desktop and did not require user autologin (vino, for example, starts only after logging into the system through x). I just started the server remotely via ssh, it created a copy of the desktop and I could work, end the SSH connection and connect to the created VNC server. But it has a bug - the VNC server itself periodically falls off. So, I'm looking for a replacement.
I tried to deal with xvnc4server using this manual . But instead of the desktop I saw a gray square

A few years ago I used www.nomachine.com/select-package.php?os=linux&id=1 and it seemed OK.
I didn’t quite understand what is required, but I used www.teamviewer.com/ (just for Linux)
Tobish you need something a la RDP for Windows. Implementations of such protocols are a dime a dozen.
