How to rationally choose the size of the SSD: 128 or 250 GB?

I want to buy an SSD for a stationary multitasking home PC, now it has a 1 TB HDD, I want to add another hard drive.
The most banal question about choosing the size of the SSD. If I use an SSD only for the system and the minimum amount of software, can I get by with 128GB without tangible inconvenience in the future, or is it better to take 256 at the moment?
For 3.5 years of use, the partition with the system has grown to 170 GB now (well, here I could put part of the software in C once, plus ~ 20 GB of files in the directories of standard libraries, which I left in C).
I would take 256, but for me the prices seem to be biting (for example, I like Samsung 860 EVO 250Gb - about 5k on 09/04/2018).
Maybe I don’t take into account some factors or I’m thinking in the wrong direction, in the process of googling I saw that earlier in such cases they always advised 128, but my clumsy experience with an overgrown system partition haunts. I also read about the spherical small dimensions of the system in a vacuum, we are talking about long-term and comfortable work .
The OS used is Win7.

Definitely take 256.
It is difficult to get into 128 comfortably. Especially with a swing over several years.

It's about long-term and comfortable work.

250 is the required minimum. I've been saying this as SSD-water since their inception.

512 :)
Prices for EVO, yes, biting... I gave ten for my 512G...

I had 4 120 GB on my laptop as a system one.
From time to time WinDirStat ran through to remove the most unnecessary - and that was enough.
So that's okay, that's enough.

Since the question of felt-tip pens, then my IMHO - 128 for the system and favorite toy, and the old terobyte for multimedia.

For me personally, under Windows - 256, and under working Linux - 128. I
just use more software under Windows, including hobby. It doesn't exist under Linux.
But just in case, I just bought 512.

For me, 256 is not enough. Windows + Visual Studio 2017 + WoW :) and ~60Gb remains on the SSD. It seems like there is still a place, but SSD cannot be stuffed to the eyeballs.
In your case, if you choose between 256 and 128, then the first is better. Ideally, of course 512 :)

I started with 256, 4 years ago. six months later everything was packed))) programs and current projects.
Reassuring your toad that voluminous archives, etc. I will store it on a large HDD, I was hard faced with the fact that the speed of both transferring and unpacking from the HDD is disastrously different from the SSD.
About programs in general know-comments, they should only be on SSD.
A year ago I climbed to 500, right now I’m already sitting on two 500, a terabyte is still in sight, I’m waiting for testing)))
