How to quickly run applications/scripts on debian?

Hi all. I ran into such a problem, installed debian, and before that I used windows. More or less figured out the basics, but I can not find anything about the quick launch of sh scripts. I have for example intelijj idea and it is launched using this script. How to make it run like firefox from console. ie just type 'idea' in the console and it will run. I tried PATH=$PATH:path to the file but I guess I'm doing something wrong.
