How to put things in order on your screw?

As a matter of fact, after installing Windows for the new academic year, after 2 weeks, again, you won’t understand what’s going on. Especially in download folders. A bunch of books from / to archives, it is not clear where and why.
I tried to create separate folders (for literature) and divide it into categories. After a while, everything falls into disarray anyway. It’s just that at this pace, unfortunately, I spend several minutes of time sometimes to dig up something I need, and when I find it, I forget why I was looking for it. And after half a year or a year I generally forget the purpose of some files.

Maybe someone has a simple and effective way to keep the hard drive clean and "alert"?

You just need not to be lazy to distribute everything from the download folder to the final folders in time, and delete the superfluous / unnecessary immediately. And the directory structure itself is quite simple, a folder for games, a folder for music, a folder for movies, documents, for software distributions. In time, distribute everything from the download folder to them and there will be no trash.

Start -> Run -> cmd (this must be written).
A black window will pop up. Write there:
format X:
Where X is the letter of the desired drive.

I basically don’t analyze these blockages of downloads, I just stupidly delete everything periodically. What is the point of keeping? Software becomes obsolete at a catastrophic rate, everything else can always be downloaded as well. I sometimes cut the most enduring goodies (books, for example) into blanks.

As said above - everything must be deleted and not steamed. And if you can’t delete it, then write everything to the disks, then index them ( google ) and number the disks with a marker, then put them away. When you need to find something, open the index file and search with it - you will have the disk number and the location where the desired file is located.

When downloading, it is better to immediately specify in which folder the file should be sent. Almost all rocking chairs have this functionality. A couple of extra clicks when downloading, but in the future there is less mess.

In addition to the theme directory scheme above, I would suggest using the desktop as the download folder. You have to see it more often, and, therefore, all the “garbage” accumulating on it catches your eye more often, which is a good enough incentive for timely cleaning (you get used to cleaning after work/day is over very quickly).

I use Windows Search right through the start. And when the place runs out, I shove thick files into the library on the next hard drive, but already in the categories of video, music, software ...

I don’t store everything that can be downloaded at all, I just delete it periodically. In addition to music, because I listen to it periodically.
I immediately save things that were difficult / long to look for in a separate section.
Things that are very important and difficult to find - I back up in some kind of dropboxes.
The best option is to switch to Linux and use only the console, without file managers. The mess will disappear on its own

Minimum entropy, maximum order.

There was such a problem. The only way out is to overcome yourself.
Make music throw music into daddy, book into book daddy.
If you set the program to “clean look” and you don’t need it, it’s better to delete it right away than to remember later what it was.
By the way, “libraries” help a lot in Windows 7.

Buy a new hard drive. It's easier.
Well, to have some order in the downloads and delete unnecessary ones.

I'll tell you from my own experience how I solve this problem. Everything is the same: a lot of jumps of all sorts + the desktop is still clogged.
Every Saturday morning, I start by organizing what I've accumulated over the week. First, it takes a little... just a little bit of discipline to do it all the time. Secondly, the competent organization of folders - this is a kind of banal and simple question, but on the other hand it is very subtle. For example, I have a folder:
Univer: with subfolders 1 course, 2 course, 3 course, 4 course, 5 course.
IT: coding, webdev, administration, photo, etc.
folder with my nickname: there are subfolders of photos, documents, music
soft: for software distributions
In general, I will not list further, just something like that. The main thing is to develop some kind of punctuality and responsibility in yourself - it will come in handy in life.

I think that the “Downloads” folder was created for this, so that there would be a kind of hack, after all, this is the first stage of sorting. Also, if you need to save a handful of files, I'm not too lazy to create the notorious New folder (23).
Yes, and in Windows, in most save windows, there are shortcut buttons on the left (I haven’t found how to increase their number yet) - so I reassigned them to folders where I often save something. archives with music there, documents, or installers.
I maintain order on all external drives, and sometimes I try to tidy up what I have a little, say, I tell myself to sort the folder of incoming video files into categories. In parts and clean more pleasant.
