How to put the system on HP Compaq Armada M700?
I have an HP Compaq Armada M700 laptop with a floppy drive, but it does not have a system. I want to put something like Windows 98 or a small Linux distribution on it. Tell me how to do it. I really hope for your help.

Installed Windows 98 by copying the image files directly to the hard drive and running setup.exe from DOS.
The Armada M700 has a CD-RW drive, USB, and a network. It's a little strange that with all this you want to install the system using floppy disks.
Any Linux distro can be made small. You can install Debian or Gentoo Linux. They are well documented and there are a lot of installation options from everything you can, including CD-ROM, USB and over the network.
I know this car. There is a regular IDE screw that you can pull out, install the same Linux on another machine and put it back.
You can even create a separate partition with installation files (even Win98 if you want) from which you can do the installation.
I had such a machine there and WinXP works fine and ubuntu 10.04.
You can install it like this:
1) Create a virtual machine in VirtualBox
2) Install OS into it
3) Convert the VDI image to a RAW image
VBoxManage -q internalcommands converttoraw win98.vdi win98.eng.se.raw
4) Next, copy this image to the hard drive
dd if=win98.eng.se.raw of=/dev/sdX bs=512
