How to protect yourself from losing files when syncing with the cloud?

The folder located on the computer is synchronized with the cloud. Will local copies of files in this folder be deleted if they are deleted from the cloud (for example, as a result of a hack or provider error)? Is it possible to prevent this or somehow recover the files? What is the best cloud to use in this regard? Thank you.
