How to properly update php on mac os?

The situation is such that mac os already has php initially, but at the moment it is old. In the process of "googling" how to update php on mac, everywhere they write to use the homebrew utility.
brew install php7
So if you use this php command, then it will install, but for some reason the old version is still used. Where can I specify which version to use?

I decided not to bother with the installation and just overridden the use of the php that comes with MAMP. Here is the link
